Younique Review: Is It A Scam?

Written By : Dr Ruby Shah   ✓ Fact Checked

Younique is an American multi-level marketing company (MLM) that markets beauty products. Are they legit? Read our review to learn more about this company.

(Last Updated on November 29, 2022)

Younique is a company that works to help provide cosmetics to females.

It allows people to join as business consultants and sell products on their own, earning commission in relation to how many products they sell and how long they have been active in the company.

What is Younique?

Many people immediately assume that Younique will be the same as any other MLM (multi-level marketing) company.

In many ways, they are – in fact, they pretty much hit the nail on the head with their leveling system that allows you to advance in the company and earn more revenue.

However, one thing that’s quite common among MLM companies that Younique doesn’t bother you with is personal space.

A lot of MLMs first introduce themselves by inviting prospective members to house parties or board meetings. Younique skips all this.

Instead, Younique encourages their business consultants – or presenters, as they’re called – to run their businesses from their own homes on their own devices.

They are heavily involved with social media, so if you have a bumping Facebook account then you can expect to get your foot in the door pretty easily with Younique.

However, if you don’t have a Facebook account, then you might want to look somewhere else, because they’ll ask you for access to it.

That said, Younique still allows you to host home parties, of course.

That’s just another way to extend the network and introduce new customers.

The important thing is that they’re aware of changes to technology, and they’re accommodating that into their business model.

Younique: What Do They Sell?

Younique offers a wide variety of cosmetic products:

  • Fragrances, colognes and perfumes
  • Eye products like eyeliner
  • Lipstick and lip gloss
  • Facial cleansers, toners, and blush
  • Products for skin care and for promoting longevity and preventing aging
  • Body products and supplements that can keep you healthy

Many of these products are available in collections or sets, where you can get better deals if you choose to buy a few things together.

Younique Most Popular Products

Younique has a lot of popular products, but a few of them stand out above the rest.

Royalty Detoxifying Mask

It is a great product for helping to exfoliate your skin and keep yourself feeling fresh.

Touch Glorious Face Primer

It is another product that can be used for a quick pick-me-up of your facial skin.

Touch Mineral Liquid Foundation

It is a great product that helps to remineralize your skin that can be applied quite easily to skin all over your body.

Just because these are the best products doesn’t mean that they’re the best.

Younique has a huge product range and it’s worth picking and choosing products until you find one that works best for you.

Does Younique Work?

Many people have reported success using Younique’s products.

In fact, their reviews are quite positive almost everywhere you go.

They have well-tested products and customers are happy to report the improvement that they experience when using them.

Younique uses a special blend of ingredients that are developed specifically to maximize the benefits that their products can provide for your face, your hair, and your skin.

Their cosmetics are intended to be durable, effective, and attractive.

Many people have had success using Younique.

However, not everyone has felt the same way.

Some people were so unimpressed with their products that they demanded refunds immediately.

Just like with buying anything, no matter how many reviews you read, ultimately you’re going to have to make your own decision.

The general consensus, however, is that Younique makes pretty good products.

Younique MLM Business Opportunity

One of the things that separates Younique from other similar companies is the way that they target their customers.

Younique is unique in the sense that they mostly use social media to promote their products, and they ask their presenters to use social media as well.

This bridges the huge gap between people who use social media and those who like to promote their products in person.

Instead of calling for home parties, like many MLM companies do, Younique suggests hosting Virtual Parties which you can invite different people to.

This means that you don’t need to be in the same city or even the same country as someone you want to host a Younique party with.

You don’t need to fill your space with strangers and you can do most of your marketing from your very own house.

To start working with Younique, you’ll need to pay a $99 fee which will include your starter’s kit.

You get a pretty good deal with this kit: you get 30 eye pigments, 6 concealers, 5 things of blush, some 3D fiber lash mascara, a 3-set of eye brushes, and a charm.

It’s all put together in a nice kit which will be appealing to customers.

This is more than enough to help you start making money.

You’ll be able to flip the products for more than you paid for them.

Younique: The Compensation Plan

Now that you understand a bit more about what Younique is and what they stand for, you’re probably interested in learning about the compensation plan.

This is what we’re really here for, isn’t it?

When you first join the company, you will make a bit less than some of the higher end members.

Commissions and royalties begin at 20%, which isn’t too terrible.

If you continue with the company, you can go through a system of levels as you sell more things and provide more value to the company.

As you do this, your royalties will increase with the possibility of them maxing out at 36%.

If you reach the yellow level, then you don’t have to worry about ever making less than 25% royalties.

Is Younique A Pyramid Scheme?

If you’re new to the MLM scene, then you’ve probably heard that there are a lot of pyramid schemes in the industry.

There is some truth to this, but it’s not necessarily a bad thing.

People are often skeptical when they are contacted by a company that wants to recruit them.

This is no different for Younique.

When you are being recruited by a company, it suggests that someone is going to be getting paid more than you are just because they hired you.

That is, in a way, indicative of a pyramid scheme.

But that doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re going to get ripped off.

That’s just the way the business structure works, and it’s a pretty functional structure to be honest.

Younique Reviews & Complaints

Customer reviews for Younique are all across the board.

Both workers and presenters have a lot to say about the company.

Some reviews have been quite positive, whereas others have decried the companyfor being dishonest and bad.

One presenter who had a bad experience says that you should “not get manipulated into joining this company.”

They claim that all presenters “read from scripts to get you to join,” suggesting that nobody from the company is an actual person.

This simply isn’t true, but there are certainly some presenters that are dishonest and scripted.

Other people who have had the products report much better experiences than those who have actually been contacted by the company.

One user in Texas said that “at first I was skeptical because I have sensitive skin,” but that they were soon “blown away and now pretty much own it all.

They were so enamored by Younique’s product line that they bought as many products as they could!

The general verdict here seems to be that Younique offers great products, but that their MLM program isn’t the best.

Younique Prices & Where To Buy

Younique is quite a popular product line. They have their own website where you can buy single products. Here, you’ll find some of the best deals, but you’ll also have to pay for shipping.

Their website is also where you can get bulk things for your marketing deals.

The prices on their website are quite expensive but still cheaper than you’d find on other sites.

  • The Touch Glorious Face Primer, for $47, is a little bit cheaper than you could find it in Amazon or at stores.
  • The Royalty Divine Daily Moisturizer is also available for $47 plus shipping on their website. Though it costs a bit more on Amazon, you may be able to get it for cheaper due to shipping discounts.

You can also find Younique on popular distributor sites like Amazon and eBay.

Since Younique is popular enough to be sold in stores, you can find it in many mid- to high-end cosmetic shops. Places like Lush will probably carry Younique products.

You can also get in contact with groups of people or individuals who sell it online. They will be more than happy to contact you!

Younique Money Back Guarantee & Refund Policy

Younique’s money-back guarantee, affectionately called the Love It Guarantee, is similar to other companies. From their site, they say that:

We’re so confident that you’ll love Younique that we guarantee your satisfaction with, and the quality of, all of our products. We’ve crafted our product guarantee policy to make purchasing Younique products easy and worry-free. If you don’t love it, we’ve got you covered!

If you continue to read, you will find out that they offer a 14-day refund on anything after it’s delivered, with no questions asked.

If you’re unsatisfied for any reason you can send it back and they’ll give you an exchange, a refund (minus shipping) or credit for their store.

If you wait for 15-30 days after it’s delivered then you’ll be able to receive up to 80% of the price that you prayed, or equal value in store credit.

That’s fine and dandy, but do they live up to it? Some people have reported that even after receiving Younique products, they asked to ship them back and were rejected.

Not everyone has had their refund requests refused, and since Younique has a name to uphold, they do try to meet all of their customer’s needs.

Younique Pros & Cons

Just like with any MLM company (or any company that you’re dealing with at all) it’s important to make sure that you understand both the positives and negatives.

While Younique certainly has its share of benefits, it’s not a free lunch. There are some cons that you should know about before you decide to work for this company.

Pros

  • They have a very informative interactive website which can be useful for people who are new to the platform.
  • You aren’t required to auto-ship products, which is a scheme that many businesses make their clients and consultants adhere to.
  • You aren’t required to keep stock of the inventory that you purchase, which can be time consuming and tedious.
  • You get a Younique Visa card, which is provided by the company. This allows you to instantly receive payments from Younique instead of having to wait for lengthy bank transfers or checks to be mailed.

Cons

  • There is a minimum amount of sales you need to make to retain your membership. If you sell less than $125 every 3 months then you will not be allowed to remain active.
  • Younique is not certified by Leaping Bunny and cannot provide the quality assurance that other certified companies can.
  • Some report that the products do not live up to the high standards that a company of this stature should provide.
  • They have a Presenter Agreement which has very strict and specific regulations. Many people find this constraining and hard to deal with.
  • You will be asked to provide details and access to your Facebook profile so you can do sales with online parties. This allows your friends and families to see that you’re involved with Younique.

Younique Review: Final Verdict

Well, if there’s one thing that Younique got right (and there’s definitely more than one) it’s the name. They are a very unique company and they’re providing great opportunities, especially for females who love makeup and love selling things.

The coolest thing about Younique is the way that they’re heavily based on social media. For people who enjoy remaining in the comfort of their own home, fear not – you can still start a Younique business from your office chair.

Just like other MLM companies, you get out what you put in. For some people, this can result in reasonable profits. For others, they may find themselves scratching them heads and getting irritated.

Hopefully after reading this article, you’ll have a better idea of whether or not Younique is for you.
