There are many products and procedures available to help make us look younger. Sometimes it’s hard to tell a person’s age by looking at them. They may have had botox treatments, fillers or even a facelift.
I find that I tend to look to the neck area to give me clue. To me it seems that the skin in this area is usually a bit of a tell tale sign as to someone’s age1 . No matter how smooth and taut their face may look there is generally some crepiness in the neck.
It’s a fact of life, we all get old, and this takes its toll on our skin. As we age our skin loses elasticity and becomes thinner. Our body produces less collagen which gives our skin firmness, and less elastin which gives our skin elasticity.
The effects of the sun, gravity and our lifestyle choices can all help this process along.
One of the signs of aging may be crepiness on the neck, decolletage, arms and hands. The skin starts to look thin and has criss crossed lines.
Crepe Erase is marketed as being “the number one solution for reversing dry, aging, crepey skin on the body”.
Is there any evidence to back up these claims? Let’s take a look.
What Is Crepe Erase?
This product is marketed by Guthy Renke, who also market Proactiv and Meaningful Beauty among other products. Their marketing strategy uses series of Infomercials, TV ads, telemarketing and the Internet.
The product has celebrity endorsement from the actress Jane Seymour. It is also promoted by Dr Andrew Ordon, a certified Plastic Surgeon, and co presenter of the TV show The Doctors.
The company is registered with the Better Business Bureau and has an A+ rating. There are however 892 customer complaints logged with them.
Crepe Erase claims to be:
The leading anti-aging body care system clinically shown to reverse crepey-looking skin.
But do these claims live up to expectation?
Products In This Range
There are seven products in the range:
- Exfoliating Body Polish – a body scrub that promises smoother, firmer, more radiant skin.
- Intensive Body Repair Treatment – a cream which may repair and condition the appearance of dry, aging, crepey skin on the neck, chest, arms and legs.
- Advance Firming Eye Serum – a serum to apparently smooth, lift and tighten the look of wrinkled, sagging, crepey skin around the eye area.
- Refining Facial Scrub – a cleanser and exfoliator.
- Restorative Facial Treatment – a moisturizer that allegedly smooths, tightens, and lifts the appearance of the facial skin.
- Ultra Hydrating Body Lotion – a body moisturizer.
- 4 in 1 Eye Renewal Capsules – an eye serum that possibly helps reduce puffiness, improve dark circles and smooth wrinkles.
Crepe Erase Ingredients
There is no detailed list provided on the company website of the quantities of each ingredient for their products. They are listed to some degree but in broad terms.
There is one ingredient that is common to all products, apart from the 4 in 1 Eye Renewal Serum. This is a patented ingredient called Trufirm. But what is in it?
Trufirm is a blend of:
- Apple – this is an antioxidant. Antioxidants can help prevent skin damage from sun exposure, among other things. A study has however shown that more research is necessary in relation to the use of antioxidants dermatologically.
- Dill – has been shown to help with skin elasticity.
- Sage – another antioxidant to help prevent damage from free radicals.
Whilst it would appear there is some clinical validation that these ingredients may help our skin maintain elasticity, there is no evidence that the formula works.
Other ingredients found in the product range are:
- Coconut Oil – has been shown to considerably hydrate the skin2 .
- Shea Butter – fat that is derived from the nuts of the Shea tree. It is rich in Vitamin C and has antioxidant and anti inflammatory properties3.
- Cocoa Butter – type fat derived from the cocoa bean and is a natural moisturizer4 .
- Olive Oil – an antioxidant that can have beneficial effects after sun exposure.
- Beeswax – is a skin conditioning agent5.
- Vitamin E – has been shown to increase the skin’s elasticity. It also has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties6 .
- Olive Fruit Extract – is a skin conditioning agent7.
- Cotton Thistle Extract – (found only in the Hydrating Body Lotion) can help the skin maintain moisture and help repair sun damaged skin.
Other ingredients worth noting are:
- Hyaluronic Acid – (found in the Eye Renewal Capsules) -this is a staple ingredient of most anti aging products. It can boost collagen and elasticity, and help reduce the appearance of wrinkles8 .
- Lactic Acid – ( found in the Exfoliating Body Polish) can help smooth skin and reduce wrinkles.
Does Crepe Erase Work?
Crepe Erase claims that Trufirm is a breakthrough in Skin Science Care. The company relies heavily on the blend they call Trufirm which they say has been proven to visibly treat and improve the signs of aging skin while helping to promote healthy collagen and elastin.
The reason we get crepey skin is because our skin naturally thins as we age and the production of collagen and elastin slow down. These form the framework of our skin. It’s like a scaffolding holding it up. The more collagen and elastin your body has, the better the framework and the better the skin appears. Less wrinkles and more smoothness.
Ingredients that can help aged skin include retinoids, alpha hydroxy acids, or peptides. These ingredients can help encourage new cell growth and remove dead or damaged cells. Lactic acid, salicylic acid, glycolic acid, and hyaluronic acid can also help to moisturize the skin and improve the appearance.
There are some ingredients in these products which will benefit our skin and help with moisturisation. There does appear to be a lack of ingredients that will help with collagen renewal and elastin, which causes the crepiness in the first place.
There are no independent studies to show the benefits of using these products. There is no proven evidence on the companies website either.
Crepe Erase Side Effects
There are no reported side effects but the company do advise you seek advice from your doctor if you are pregnant.
Some customers have reported irritation after using Crepe Erase.
It is always safer to check with your doctor or do a patch test when using any new product.
Crepe Erase Reviews & Complaints
Of 211 reviews on Amazon for the Intensive Body Repair Treatment:
- 36 percent rated it 5 stars
- 47 percent rated 3 stars or less.
Of 112 reviews on Highya.com 78 percent rated the products with 1 star.
There are obviously some people that are happy with their purchase.
Penny J Rush writes:
Best I have used for moisture areas like my arms and my chest and even put around my eyes along with my eye cream. I am 56 and receive compliments on my neck and chest area. This cream helps a lot!
Then come the negative reviews.
They range from the product not working, being greasy or causing irritation and redness.
The complaints about the customer service and auto ship scheme are numerous and we will come to that issue in a moment.
Joan Fischer writes:
Does not work at all. How can the movie stars advertise this and have people who are not in their position financially waste their money on this??
When you order from the company website you are automatically signed up for repeat shipments, and further charges to your credit card.
Regina J Huffman is one unhappy customer:
First, it was advertised as $59.95: to find out after ordering it was $59.95 for 3 months. It did nothing as to what it advertised. I have paid $180 for nothing. It’s a complete rip off and a scam. You are wasting money if you buy this.
Looking at the checkout process on their website, it clearly states that you will be signed up for auto shipment going forward. You have no option to get out of this other than calling customer service to cancel it. I will cover this further when we look at pricing.
Some people have even gone so far as to cancel their credit cards because the customer service do not deliver on any promises they make.
Crepe Erase: Packages, Prices & Where To Buy
The products can be bought direct from the Crepe Erase website, or through their approved outlets, Amazon.Com, QVC or Kohls.
The pricing on the company website reads:
The wording on the Order Summary seems very confusing, it reads:
For today’s Crepe Erase Maximum Results System you will be charged 1 payment of $59.95 plus $5.99 shipping and handling.
One month after your first order is shipped, and then every three months thereafter, you will be sent a new full size supply of Crepe Erase.
Each shipment will be charged to the card you provide today, in three monthly payments at the guaranteed low price of $59.95 plus $3.99 for shipping and handling per month, unless you call to cancel.
I find it misleading that the company advertises one price then charges three times that amount.
The wording on the Order Summary is ambiguous, three monthly payments could be interpreted as a payment every three months in line with the dispatch of the product.
By my reckoning you will get shipped five lots of product in a 10 month period of the Five Piece Maximum Results System. The total charge for this will be $64.94 for the initial payment inc. S&H, then $63.94 per month.
Almost $700!
If you decided to call and opt out of the auto shipment you would still be paying $193.82 for your one supply of this product.
The company does have a 60 day money back guarantee, less S & H, this also extends to Amazon purchases.
See below how the official site looks like.
Crepe Erase Pros & Cons
Crepe Erase Review: Best For Crepey Skin?
The bottom line here, after the research I have done, is that I would not recommend Crepe Erase to a friend.
Customer reviews, in the main, are negative. There is no scientific back up that this product will work.
From customer complaints, the customer services are widely criticized, as are the companies advertising practices.
Even if the product does work, one of my main concerns is the auto ship that you cannot opt out of until after you order. Then you have to call customer services and this process appears to be less than successful.
Crepe Erase does seem to work for some people. Personally I would opt for a cheaper moisturizer from my local store. I might even invest in visiting a professional for more invasive treatment.
We laid out the facts, will you buy Crepe Erase? Comment below and tell us what you think!
I’m so torn, I would love to try it but I can’t afford to purchase it and it not work.
Its available at Ulta….
QVC also sells it $110…and they have a decent return/refund policy.
Three points:
1) I bet it looks good while it’s on but when it wears off, nothing has changed.
2) They say “you have (30 or) 60 days to return the product and cancel, but in this typical “Guthy Renker” model, you don’t receive the product for a couple weeks -so you don’t have even 30 days to see if the product works. If it is as good as they say, they’d want you to have time to see how great it is!
3) Ask yourself why the screen looks so fuzzy for the sales pitch “shows.” Why can you barely make-out Jane Seymour or Dorothy Hamill through the mist? Maybe their skin isn’t as young looking as they claim!
I agree! If their product is so wonderful why don’t they air the show with hi definition? Why are they hiding behind the mist?
I agree with you JJ Banton!
So funny the way you refer to “the mist.” I thought the same thing!
I got the Body Treatment at Ulta today w/ 20% off Coupon. This is the ONLY way I will try it. I hate “Auto” anything, “Payments” also. However, I am using this on my Face, Neck & hands. The Treatment is $79 for 10 Oz. With my coupon, I paid almost $64 for the big tub. I put it under my eyes too. I don’t think any product can do much but moisturize and prevent, honestly. Anything but surgery is just gonna be a temporary look, due to firming ingredients & hydrating ones. I’ve had it on for 20 minutes or so, the back of my hands look pretty good. I’m in bed, so I can’t see my face. I’m sure it just looks moisturized. If you want to try this, I would get a deal like this. Don’t fall for the “Plans”.
Where did you get the $20 coupon from?
I am a licensed aesthetician. I have tried some of the Guthy Renke products. They do not work. Their ingredients are a little healthier for your skin compared to some products on the market, but not worth the money. I would suggest you find a good aesthetician to consult with that has a good skin care line at a decent price.
Thank you. This article was very helpful. I like things that I can try one time only before having more shipped to me and my credit card automatically being charged. I once had to cancel a credit card due to this problem. If I could walk into a store and just outright buy a jar, I would try it. Thanks for the reminder that I can not afford to get sucked into this system again. If I recall,Howard Murad started this way on t.v., and now you can get it in any drug store. Will wait until it comes to stores to try. Thank you for saving me from myself????
just tried it for 60 days; it was worthless!! at least they DID honor their money back guarantee! i wouldn’t waste my time OR hard earned money!!
Thank you for your honesty, I will not buy it and am very disturbed that these actresses say it works when it clearly doesn’t and scam you with the auto-delivery! Bad Karma????
The product is working for me, my elbows, knees and hands are soft and smooth, my skin is not dry or crepey
For all us ladies out there who aren’t afraid of aging but just want to look our best every day when we look at ourselves in the mirror… I am in the public eye every day and being a health coach I need to look my best or no one will take what I tell them seriously. I’ve tried every product on the market, it seems, and given them time to “do their thing”. You can take this to the bank ladies…what you put INTO your body makes the difference, not what you put ON your body. Save your $ on these products. These companies are hoping to make you feel like you are not aging well so you’ll buy into their products. You can make your own creams at home with a little research that work just as well!
It’s just another scam. I developed a huge rash. Called to cancel immediately. They continue charging, but of course shipments we’re cancel. Customer Service is a nightmare!!!
Crepe erasers snake oil. I saw no improvement in a month and felt stupid for falling for and buying it in the first place. The actors promoting this should be ashamed of themselves. Thankfully I bought it via Amazon so didn’t go through that cycle of payment rip off so many people had to put up with?
I’m so happy I read the reviews. I was vacillating for several days. Now I definitely will not purchase the product. I’ve been the recipient of orders where they keep mailing o er and o er and charging my credit card and ot takes weeks to get off their list
Even if the product worked I think it is unsavory to cheat the customers that way.
Hi, I felt the same way. It sounds like a great product. I’m not saying it isn’t but you can buy a facial scrub and cream for the same price that will give you the same if not better results. Seriously I think it is a rip off. By the time I received the product and tried it out it was over the 60 days and couldn’t return for a full refund… I tried to cancel but they talked about a membership and continued to send product. I have several boxes of product that I haven’t used. If you want to try it contact me and we can arrange a deal. All I want is what I paid. I still have original box and receipts
The very first thing I do whenever I think of purchasing ANYTHING from A TV Advisement IS to ALWAYS read the Reviews of previous customers..Thank you for your honesty.
I’m 63 yrs old and have been there and done that a few times.. No.. I would not purchase this product which I was interested in for my arms and thigh area’s.. Just the Shipping issues alone stopped me I will continue to Moisturize More..
What product do you recommend for reducing crepiness on legs, arms, etc.?
I am 65 yrs. old. I have been using my own combination of essentials. At night I use Frankincense, carrot seed, and rose hip seed oils mixed together in argan oil as the carrier. I also use one at a time with grape seed oil. These oils are not greasy and are very good for anti-aging and firming .
I use oils for my skin also and I purchase organic skin lotions and add skin healing oils to it. Works great!!
How much and how do you combine them . Also where do I get all that ?
Thank you so much .
I am allergic to all Parabens (methylparabens, polyparabens, isobutylparaben, elhylparabens, etc.)
lanolin and fragrances. Is there any of these things in you products?
He aught to be ashàmed of himself ! Just like those bras he was selling that didn’t do what he said they would ! ladies what I have learned is if I buy anything online that I will do the research before I purchase and the majority of the time it’s a sham. Go to a regular store get moisturizer get bras that you can try on excetera excetera but don’t fall for this hustle ! if women order this and it feels he’s already made his money from all the ones that make the mistake of ordering it! Pitiful. I didn’t buy.
I too use Young Living essential oils ..
they are pure without any type of fillers ..
I’m curious on how many drops do you use of each ..??
If anyone would like to try some thing that works feel free to send me a message..
Where do you get products. Little confused on how you use grape seed oil. Thank you for info
I’m so glad I paid for this with Paypal and then cancelled when they tried to ship me more. They told me they had already sent another shipment– even though I did not authorize the payment, and that I owe them $209. If I get another shipment I’ll refuse it and send it back. There is nothing special about this product. Get some epsom salts and coconut oil or olive oil to use as an exfoliate more often — then get a good moisturizer and you’ll be better off.
As I was placing the order I switched to PayPal at the last minute for the protection. I figured PayPal might go to bat for me if Guthy Renker pulled a fast one. Guthy Renker doesn’t seem to realize is once I see “sold through Guthy Renker” I immediately exit the channel or website. Their reputation is so horrible for locking customers into continuous shipments with no escape in sight. However, as I have tried almost every product on the market for my turkey neck, I was willing to try it though I am fully expecting a battle with Guthy Renker if it doesn’t. Stay tuned.
it’s worthless, but i had no trouble getting my $ back & preventing auto ship. they also honored the 60 day guarantee, & i got my initial investment back in 5 days!
Karla, Thank for your article of warning others of a scam by Guthy Renke and how to protect yourself! Your amazing person! You have prevented me and many others from getting caught up in this ridiculous product scam!!!!!!!!!
They have a doctor that stands behind the product, some famous people and a large group of women that they show how their skin changed. How are they supposed to show scientific proof outside of women’s reviews? The ingredients are made for skin improvement and they are natural but If I do try it that’s what it should be, a trial test and not be locked to the product before a final decision is made on my part. They do have an introductory price and then the original price is entered on the next shipment. But you do get more than 1 product for that amount where other skin products cost that much or more for just 1 product. It’s a test choice one has to make and decide if it works or not, like many have. I try to go with products that are non-toxic and have natural ingredients.
Sound like a fraudulent product and I bet the actresses get paid to be a part of the 30 minute show seen on CBS on Saturday mornings. And they probably have boxtox and face lifts. Just drink a lot of water, and use natural ingredients on your face – even apple cider vinegar.
I was assured that I was ordering a one time supply but the Asian girl that I spoke with lied and they charged me double. Once I called to clear the extra cost they said they weren’t able to give me my money back for 3-5 days. I asked for up line manager. But the person was worst than the first one I spoke with . The person that took my order over the phone did what she chose. Even after she assured me that my order was being put in as a one time order. Should literally
lied and they tried to say it was my fault . I should she made an extra rew dollars by charging be for two orders. Don’t have the product and they wouldn’t cancel the order. I cancel my card and my bank will see to it that I get that second $65 and smell change back. I will not order from them again become of their dishonesty and management covering up for the person. Sad thing about. they didn’t really hear my concern it was all about theme making money.
This is exactly what happened to me
Bad custome service. Crooks and cover up for each other .
I used the original and was not impressed at all. Thought perhaps the advanced was refined and better. No. In fact skin regressed after changing from a product I switched to. It also appears to cause my skin to feel uncomfortable to the point of almost itching. Not sure if a new ingredient or carrying agent that was not in the older version is causing an allergic response or if the product is just so stiff on the skin for lack of a better term.
The company reports that it goes on easier and absorbs better. I found the opposite to be the case. It’s very hard to smooth on. The older product went on easier. This one is not as greasy on the skin though. It does not get my recommendation, and I will never purchase again.
Kathy: Which one is the “old” one? Is it the Intensive or Advanced?
Why is the moisture treatment half full in the 3.5oz size
Wow. Just used this system for the first time. I should have read the reviews first. I didn’t think Jane Seymour would stand behind a less than stellar product line. It wasn’t easy to rub the product into my skin and it tingled and sort of burned even 20 minutes after I put it on. I’m sending it back. May have to change my credit card. We’ll see if they refund my initial payment of almost $60. Very very deceptive. Too bad we can’t unite against these scam artists and cause them to go bankrupt!
They get paid well to endorse scams. They figure it’s an acting job.
So glad I read this article before ordering. Thank you!
Me too. I don’t order any ASOTV products.
I’m using the product every day but don’t see any improvement. I’m about half way through, Next week if I HAVEN’T seen a change I will ask to return this product. It was too good to be true.
Im so thankful i read everyone’s comments and poor service. I was hoping this would be the answer to my crepy upper arms. There is no way i would order now. Thank you!
Im also glad I’ve read these reviews. I have
absolutely no desire to purchase now.
I wish I had read this first. I think I’ll cancel before they send it out.
So very glad that I decided to research as I was just about to place the order…luckily fo me, PayPal wasn’t responding. I despise companies like this. Thank you.
My mom is 94 and she loves it. She has very dry skin and has lost a lot of weight. I’ve used it but not every day like you are suppose to. It says it helps dry skin like my mom is. That is another reason I don’t see results permanent. I Don’t have dry skin but I think it’s good to use every day anyway. CANT HURT !!!!!
Has anyone used the Flaw-Fix Intensive Lip Treatment ? How does it work??? Have you tried something else that WORKED on wrinkles around your lips???
Thank you all for your reviews.. Hard to imagine how these otherwise respected celebrities would straight up lie to the public about yet another deceptive fake beauty product.. How much $$$ are they paid I wonder to sell their souls like this?
I’m sure they are paid well because they are celebrities.
Bought this because Dr. Ordon was backing it and thought I could trust his opinion. WRONG! Does not work. And I spent a VERY LONG time on the phone getting the rep to STOP sending orders that I never signed up for in the 1st place.
Guthy Renek has not been too positive for me. Meaningful Beauty claimed it has a melon extract essential for an it aging yet little was know of how much was in the product. The ingredient was listed at the bottom of ingredients. Ive researched hundreds of products over the years and saw no results and im gonna assume crepe erase is just the same. They use celebrities to sell their products not good products with results.
I just received my order and didn’t realize that I had signed up for a subscription program.. I’m calling and cancelling this. I really wanted to try this, but not now. I ordered online and i totally missed the part about this being a subscription program and they ship you a new supply every 4 weeks. I never would have brought this. Very deceiving!!!
Saw the advertisement on tv and was impressed, but decided to read reviews before ordering… thanks for the honest reviews. You can get many good products in the health store, including acids and moisturizers for face and body as well as exfoliates. In general, eating a healthy diet, getting exercise and sleeping enough is a good beginning to keeping your skin looking as good as it is possible. We all want to look younger, but healthier is even better. Creepy skin is the least of our problems as well age so get a good clean routine, listen to music and smile, that’s what makes you look young!
I think its another fraud – does not work!!!!! – Using it on my arms for a year very, very, very little difference – all bullcrap – should be ashamed of themselves or advertising.
I bought it at ULTA. Used it for six days and developed a rash in my arms, neck and chest, still itches. I’m going to return it and hopefully get my money back. If I don’t I’ll let you know.
Does NOT NOT work! They forget to tell you that better be 35 years to see difference. They advertise crepe skin but I dont know to many women under the age of 60 who have crepe skin! Clean up your advertisement
Im glad I read this. I was seeing off a friend of a friend at the airport and security wouldn’t let her bring her Crepe Erase set she just bought in her carry-on. Rather than toss it or check it she just gave it to me. I do believe that for the most part, when it comes to most products, you get what you pay for. It was free for me and for the price worked great. I looked up the actual price after a few weeks of using it in case I wanted to continue with the product, and saw how SUPER expensive it is and needed to compare cost to benefit value and found that my good old Oil of Olay is a much better product at a much better price.
I bought from QVC. Package included Advanced Body Repair Treatment-which burned my neck and after a month it still flares up-itchy, blotchy red rash. Exfoliant-which is okay-I use it before applying self tanner(but a cheaper one works just as well). And last the Anti-Aging Hand Repair Treatment-I like this but not the smell of it. As far as helping with crepping skin-I saw no improvement.
Thank you for all the reviews. I tried to order, but could not just get the $39 offer. It kept trying to charge me $110. Then I read the reviews and I will definitely not order. It looks good on TV, but there is not very many good comments. What a scam. Thank you everyone for your reviews.
I loved the facial cream and ignored the second product they sent. A wee weeks later I decided to use it because the auto ship arrived and realized I should (exfoliate). Big mistake! I have a burning rash on the side of my cheek where I tried it, like a chemical burn, and I definitely don’t want that ever again!
Very misleading! Did not realize it was auto shipping, after my order I got charged again so I called customer service to find out why. That’s when they told me it was auto ship. Customer Service Representative was extremely rude, I asked her to cancel the auto shipping that I didn’t realize was from my one time purchase. Then two days later I received a bill for $202 demanding payment. All I have is the first order that I paid $54 and now no other merchandise and a bill for $202.
This is a typical ripoff. You are prevented from cancelling an order unless 24 to 48 hours have elapsed. They tell you the order is not in the system yet. This gives them time to charge your account before you have any recourse. So even if you cancel, you are charged for the first shipment. On the top of the fact that this “creme” is no better than any much less expensive product that can be purchased in a drug store. I know, I was a licensed cosmetician for many years.
No I won’t purchase now. I hate schemes and misleading products. It should be illegal.
Ok, here goes. Out of the blue a friend gave me a jar of the Crepe Erase intensive care cream a week ago. My solution to crepey upper arms is to not wear sleeveless shirts. That solution works very well. Today I am wearing a sleeveless shirt to work. After one week of applying twice a day the crepeness is 50% better. I don’t know why but that is the truth. Maybe it will continue to get better or maybe it won’t. It did make my neck red when I applied it there. I just use it on my arms now. I will update this in 2 weeks.
After trying it for months I can say without a doubt that it does not even remotely do what it is advertised to do, it is a moisturizer with lots of emollient ingredients but the claimed miracle results are total hype and marketing a strategy to fool people into signing up and difficult to cancel.
Save your money ladies. Didn’t do one thing for me.
I am so glad i read the reviews so i can avoid another gunthey renker scam truly i don’t know how they’re still in buisness shame on them
thought it was 69.95 but turns out 3 months that price…sneaky
I thought the 4 in 1 eye serum was one of the best eye creams I’ve ever used. Wasn’t impressed with any of the other products. SJ.
Company is a scam. Told me I signed up for auto ship. I did not, and received a second shipment that I did not order. After waiting on the line for an hour someone finally came on the line and was no help. A “Supervisor “ called me two days later and told me that he would send a label to return the second shipment. Haven’t received that yet. He told that he canceled my account with them. Today I got an email saying they are sending out another shipment.
Been on hold with them now for over 30 minutes.
Thank you all . You’ve saved me so much time, energy and money!!
