Bio x4 Review: Does It Really Work?

Probiotics are the good bacteria that we find in our gut.

They help stimulate the natural enzymes and processes that keep our digestive organs functioning properly.

It is important to keep good bacteria at optimum levels to keep our digestive system healthy.

To do this you can eat foods that are rich in probiotics, such as yoghurt and sauerkraut, among others, or take probiotic supplements.

Not being a great lover of either yoghurt, sauerkraut or the alternatives, I decided to have a look at probiotic supplements.

I came across Bio X4, which not only has probiotics but also promises to;

• Control those cravings that make you overeat.
• Boost your metabolism and burn more fat.
• Get the energy and nutrients you need from the food you eat.
• Feel more confident without gas and bloating after eating.

Now I know I could do with losing a few pounds so I decided to investigate further.

This product is marketed as a 4 in 1 weight management probiotic, and is one of several supplements sold by Nucific.

Their company mission is to “offer cutting-edge products backed by science that can help your body operate at its prime level, the way it was designed to.”

The company director is Dr Amy Lee who holds certifications in Internal Medicine, Clinical Nutrition and Obesity Medicine.

The company is registered with the Better Business Bureau. It has 10 reviews and 34 registered complaints, most of which are based on the ordering process and overcharging. In fairness most of these seem to have been resolved.

The company uses eco friendly packaging. They also donate part of the proceeds of each sale to Action Against Hunger.

As well as Bio X4 the company offers a range of nutritional supplements including:

• Nucific Slimming Chocolates
• Probiotic Complex
• Dr Amy’s Bone Broth
• Deep Cell Activator
• Antartic Crill Oil

Bio X4 is sold in bottles containing 90 capsules. The suggested dosage is 1 capsule 3 times a day with meals.

Each capsule contains:

Probiotic blend (Lactobacillus Blend):  4 Billion CFUs Daily Value

• Acidophilus
• Rhamnosus
• Plantarum
• Bifidobacterium Blend:
• Lactis
• Animalis

Digestive Enzyme Blend: 43mg Daily Value

• Amylase (from Aspergilus Oryzae)
• Bromelain
• Lipase (from Rhizopus Oryzae)

Weight Management Blend: 100mg Daily Value

• Green tea Extract (50% EGCG)

Craving Control Blend: 166mg Daily Value

• Caralluma Fimbriata Extract

So what do each of these blends do?

The Probiotic Blend is what it says, a blend of good bacteria.  Probiotics have been used to treat bowel problems (such as diarrhea, irritable bowel), eczema, vaginal yeast infections, lactose intolerance, and urinary tract infections.

The Digestive Enzyme Blend contains:

• Amylase – which helps digest carbohydrates.
• Bromelain – an enzyme found in pineapples, that helps ease digestion and reduce inflammation. It is also used as a supplement for osteoarthritis, cancer and muscle soreness.
• Lipase – helps with the digestion of fats.

The Weight Management Blend is Green Tea Extract which has many health benefits, including helping with weight loss^.

The Craving Control Blend is Caralluma Fimbriata is an edible cactus. It was been used by tribal Indians to suppress appetite and enhance endurance.

Whilst there is clinical evidence which supports the company’s claims for the efficacy of its product, there is no evidence of how their particular blend works.

The probiotics may help restore “good” bacteria in your body and balance bacteria levels.

Probiotics are used to treat irritable bowel syndrome and allergic responses, as well as to boost the immune system.

Green tea may increase energy and metabolism, and help weight loss. While caralluma fimbriata may suppress appetite.

Whether these ingredients in what the company calls its “unique blend” work has not been clinically tested.

Bio X4 is one of the probiotic supplements, and it does claim to help you lose weight. But how? Well, it assists with weight loss by curbing food cravings, boosting digestion, reducing appetite, and of course, firing up your metabolism.

Make sure you follow a healthy lifestyle, eat healthy food, and maintain regular exercise. This will help you get the best results for weight loss.

The company states that their product has no known side effects. However, as with any supplements, if you are unsure, consult your doctor before taking them.

Some people have reported experiencing the following side effects:

• Bloating
• Headache
• Stomach pain
• Increased gas

There are many customer reviews of this product, more on the positive side than the negative side. Of 779 reviews on Amazon at the time of writing:

• 589 were positive
• 197 were critical

A similar pattern followed on other websites where customers have left reviews.

As with any supplemental products, what works for one person may not work for another. We are all individuals.

Stacey R Kentner rates it as a “great health and fitness booster” and writes:

I really like this product. I bought this as a health and wellness and nutritional booster and have been very happy with the results. I am not only very regular, but have much reduced gas and bloating, even during PMS! Plus I feel better over all – more energy, and just healthier. Also, I think it has helped me lose weight.

So far so good, one customer who had rated the product lower initially revisited the site to update their review after using it for 3 months, Walbutt reports:

Rated lower earlier. Took 3 months or more to see results. Will be using to achieve my goal. Definitely does what it says!! Love losing this weight. Very freeing to lose cravings for junk and sugar!!!

Now to come to the negatives, some people commented that they felt no difference at all using this product, some people report that they gained weight, Rina writes:

This is TOTAL BS! I’ve taken this product faithfully with every meal, had not changed my pretty healthy eating habits or my regular exercise pattern – and after a month my weight is UP 1.5 lb. I am not saying the product caused the weight gain, but at best it did absolutely nothing. $50 down the drain. Don’t be a sucker, save your money.

There are other comments that people experienced  various digestive issues including  bloating, diarrhea, and constipation.

Then we come to the reviews about the ordering process on the web site. Apparently when you place an order you are then offered other products from Nucific that you can add to your order.  It seems that this is confusing and people end up ordering extra products that they do not want.

A lot of the complaints logged on the Better Business Bureau seem to be around this issue, and obtaining a subsequent refund from the company.

Brian M was one such customer, whose credit card company picked up the issue as possible fraud, he writes:

I was interested in the bio4 product and tried to order one bottle to try. However the pop ups we’re annoying and found that even when I tried to say no to the other offers they appeared on my credit card as if I had ordered them. My card company alerted me of possible fraud alert and is checking into it plus canceled my card and has issued a new card hopefully this can be resolved asap I no longer wish to do business with this company anytime soon.

In addition to an apology the company response read:

We love giving special offers to our customers, so after the initial order is placed, we can unlock additional discounts for more product. Of course, we know sometimes it’s not the best time to buy more, and we give the option to decline the offer or exit the page.

It appears this customer was one of the luckier ones, some report charges to their credit card of $800 as a result of these additional offers. That particular customer was refunded by the company, and kept the products free of charge.

The company seems to be proactive in responding to negative comments on review websites, and happy to refund dissatisfied customers. However, from their comment, it does not look like they plan to change the ordering process.

The upshot of this appears to be that you need to be careful what you are clicking on after your order has been placed.

This is where I got a little confused. Dependant on how you search on the internet and which link you use to open the website, you get two different sets of prices.

If you select the product from a drop down on the Nucific site, the prices you will see appear to be the RRP. This is double the prices shown if you enter the Bio X4 page direct from a search engine. However the RRP shown on this site differ from the the ones on the main Nucific site.

The company has a 90 day money back guarantee, which they appear to honour.

However be careful if you are buying through other outlets like Amazon, the money back guarantee from those sites maybe not valid.

This product is avaliable in countries like: USA, UK and Canada.

Bio X4 contains a wide range of natural ingredients that have been linked to improved health benefits.

In comparison to other products that are out there , the price is not extortionate. Many people have said that they have benefited from using the product.

If your main aim is to lose a little weight, then it does not seem that this will be the miracle product you want.

You may be better off steering clear of the takeaways, and including more fruits and berries in your healthy diet.
